Parent of a Child Student Visa

Parent of a Child Student Visa

The Parent of a Child Student Visa enables a parent to travel to or remain in the United Kingdom to provide care and support for their child (or children) who are enrolled in an independent, fee-paying school under a valid Child Student Visa.

This visa category is specifically designed for parents whose presence is essential to ensure the welfare and well-being of their child during their studies in the UK. It allows the parent to live in the country for the duration of the child’s education, provided all eligibility requirements are met.

Link and Day Lawyers are specialists in UK immigration law, offering clear and confident guidance at every stage. With a focus on precision and care, we support your journey from start to finish.

Financial Requirements for a Parent of a Child Student Visa

To qualify for a Parent of a Child Student Visa in the UK, you must demonstrate sufficient financial resources to support yourself and any dependents during your stay.

In most cases, you will need to show a minimum of £1,560 for each month of your intended stay (up to 9 months). Additionally, you must provide evidence of £625 per month (up to 9 months) for any other child under your care, excluding the Child Student.

These funds must have been held for at least 28 consecutive days, with the final day of this period falling within 31 days prior to submitting your visa application.

If you are applying to extend your stay and have already lived in the UK with valid permission for 12 months or more, you are considered to have met the financial requirement and will not be required to provide proof of funds.

When applying at the same time as the Child Student (for entry clearance or leave to remain), and both of you have lived in the UK for less than 12 months, the financial requirement will be deemed satisfied if the Child Student meets their respective financial criteria.

Switching to a Parent of a Child Student Visa

If you currently hold valid leave to remain in the UK, you may switch into the Parent of a Child Student Visa route. However, this is not permitted if your last grant of leave was as a Visitor, Short-Term Student, or under any category outside the UK Immigration Rules.

Duration of Stay on a Parent of a Child Student Visa

A successful application will grant you leave to remain in the UK until the expiry date of the Child Student’s visa or their 12th birthday, whichever comes first.

Can Both Parents Travel to the UK?

The UK immigration rules allow only one parent to accompany a Child Student under this visa category, even if multiple children are enrolled in UK schools. The other parent may visit the UK under a Standard Visitor Visa or would need to apply under a different immigration category.

Employment Restrictions

Holders of a Parent of a Child Student Visa are prohibited from undertaking any form of paid or unpaid work in the UK.

Study Restrictions

This visa also does not grant permission to pursue studies in the UK.
